UNDERSTANDING SOLID WOOD FURNITURE
All of our custom furniture products are handmade from solid wood (unless specified elsewhere on the website/ invoice, project details or ad). We recommend our customers have a good understanding of what to expect from solid wood furniture before purchasing. There are many variables that can affect the outcome of a project such as natural variation in wood, wood stains, top coats, and the countless other materials we work with. Fallen Timber Furniture cannot guarantee any specific outcome. While we strive for perfection, your solid wood product will have its own unique characteristics such as knots, checking (natural cracks), color variation, and many other results that can vary from project to project. The variations and imperfections in solid wood custom furniture are to be expected and celebrated!
Dimensions and results can vary from those specified or depicted on our website or in your order invoice. Due to the custom nature of Fallen Timber Furniture, every project is unique and presents a unique set of challenges. Deviating from the specifications is sometimes required to optimize any piece of furniture. Any such deviations are done to optimize the project for customer satisfaction given the materials and challenges we are often forced to work with. Therefore all deviations are at the sole discretion of Fallen Timber Furniture. If any specifications are absolutely critical please let us know in advance, and we will do our best to meet them. Keep in mind that rigidity with one specification will give us less flexibility in optimizing your product.
Our goal is to keep each and every customer happy and we go to great lengths every day to do so. With that said, very few companies offer a highly customized, locally manufactured, solid wood product, and that is because it is very difficult to manage expectations. It is for this reason that all perceived deficiencies will be treated as a legitimate deficiency only if Fallen Timber Furniture deems it to be a legitimate deficiency. Since all of our furniture is built custom to order, we have a strict no returns or refunds policy. And all sales are final.
Due to the custom nature of our business, delays to our current lead time are possible. We give each and every order the time and attention needed for an exceptional product.
Any changes made to the project after the invoice is delivered via email, may be billed to the final invoice.
Expansion:
Wood is a living organism and will react to environmental changes such as humidity. As humidity rises, wood has a tendency to expand perpendicular to the grain pattern. In general, we craft our tables to account for this movement however it is difficult to do so with some design details such as extension tables and breadboards.. Additionally, sudden changes in humidity can cause checking and cracking. To combat expansion and the possibility of checks & cracks, it is important to maintain a consistent climate in the room your table is in. We highly recommend humidifiers in the winter months and dehumidifiers in the summer months. Woods that are particularly susceptible to cracks and checks are White Oak, Red Oak and Hard Maple.
Things we do to minimize wood movement:
We do everything we can to prevent any of these things happening to the furniture such as, only building with properly dried wood at a 8% moisture level which is standard for Alberta's temperatures. Along with installing heavy duty ³/¹⁶ inch thick metal c channels that get installed underneath the table to help prevent any warping or cupping to the tabletop. Also, using proper tabletop connection techniques, such as using threaded inserts and bolts to attach the legs to the tabletop and having larger holes to allow for normal seasonal expansion and contraction that happens with every piece of wood. And lastly, we finish all of our furniture fully without leaving any exposed wood that may allow for moisture to get in the wood.
Due to seasonal movement in wood, or a change in climate, or environment, Fallen Timber Furniture is not responsible / liable for any checking, cracking, warping, or movement in any part of the; furniture, built in, shelf, cabinet, door, drawer, Including any product that is sold, made or installed by Fallen Timber Furniture.
CARE & CLEANING
Protecting Your Wood Furniture, Keep the furniture in a temperature-controlled environment between 18C and 22C, with the relative humidity at 30 percent to 45 percent.
NO abrasive cleaners or harsh chemicals should be used to clean any part of the furniture. Furniture pieces can be cleaned with a simple wipe with a soft, damp cloth, using mild hand soap if needed.
Coasters:
Although our finishes are very durable, we highly recommend using coasters. Coasters will help extend the longevity of your tables finish over time.
Heat:
One of the most damaging things to wood furniture is direct heat (or cold). Direct heat can cause staining, warping, splitting, cracking and other damage. We ALWAYS recommend using trivets for hot plates, dishes, candles, Ice glasses etc..
Do not place solid wood furniture directly in front of windows, heat or air conditioning vents, radiators or fireplaces. Do not expose solid wood furniture to continuous direct sunlight
RETURNS & REFUNDS
The deposit is due with-in 48 hours of delivery of the invoice via E-transfer or in person (cash). With the remaining balance due on the date of delivery or pick up.
Due to the custom nature of our business 24 hours (including weekends) after your deposit has been sent via E-transfer or paid in cash, or the full amount has been paid via the online store, all orders are strictly non-refundable.
If a refund is absolutely required, a 10% breakage fee will be charged on the full value of the order including the price of goods purchased, fees, and taxes. The above is 100% at Fallen Timber Furniture’s discretion. If we have invested what we deem to be a considerable amount of time and/or money into a project, then unfortunately we cannot issue the 90% refund. The project must be completed and delivered at this point. It is likely that if you wait too long, the 90% refund will not be possible as we do need to source materials very rapidly after an order is placed.
Since all of our furniture is built custom to order, we also have a strict no returns or refunds policy. All furniture must be accepted as is. Legitimate deficiencies can occur and we are happy to fix them. Defining what is a legitimate deficiency is solely at the discretion of Fallen Timber Furniture.
